The following talented guys all called "The Island" home at one time or another. I'm sure everyone on this page will agree with me that above all else, this place was fun. We all had a great time here. We did a massive amount of work, but we always found time for the poker games, bachelor parties, darts, and I can't leave out - MARATHON! What a great mixture of talent and personalities.

Evan Davies has been involved with interactive media development since 1990. He helped start and build
the interactive divisions for two of Richmond's powerhouse ad agencies - O'keefe Marketing and The
Martin Agency. While at The Martin Agency, he led the team that built Coca-Cola's original corporate web site.
Armed with the previous five years experience, Evan started Davies New Media in January of 1995.

Barry - the voice of reason. There's no way I can give Barry enough credit here. We would not have made it the first year without him, let alone ten years. Although Barry was not the first full-time employee here, he was the first employee. Barry worked with me part-time in the very begining when I was still in the apartment and he was still in school getting his masters degree at VCU. Barry is the most rock-solid person I know. He has a work eithic that exceeds that of any individual I've ever worked with. In addition to being an excellent designer and web developer, Barry is also a great manager. I could always count on Barry to take care of our most critical accounts over the years. Barry became a partner in this company and was with me the whole ride and then some. Barry remains one of my very best friends and is now working at Byte Jam, and I'm sure they're glad to have him.
Barry holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications and a master's in media management from VCU. He is
a former non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Marines, having served as a tactical motorcycle operations
instructor, weapons coach and database manager.

I first met Malcolm while I was at Martin Interactive. He was at Martin working as an AE, but his heart was down in "the basement" with us interactive guys.
I'll never forget when Malcolm came to "interview" with me when DNM was still operating out of my apartment back in April of 1995. Malcolm knocked on the door, I opened it and there he was dressed complete with a tie in a business suit. I can't remember, but I probably had shorts and a t-shirt on, barefooted. I was already impressed that Malc would dress up to come see me. It so happened that on that day that Malcolm came for the interview, I was getting ready to move into DNM's new office space on Professional Road. Malcolm went home and changed clothes, came back and helped me move in. I hired him that day and he became DNM's first full time employee.
Malcolm idles at about 6000 RPM. He became known as "the code monster" - he could put a site together so fast it would make your head spin. Malcolm poured his heart and soul into this company and really helped us get traction in the early years. Without a doubt, Malcolm was our "class clown" and kept us all entertained with his antics. Malcolm was with us for the first five years. In May of 2000 he left The Island to pursue his own entreprenueral endeavours.

Tom, Originally from Southern California, joined DNM in the Spring of 1999 where his responsibilities
were design, programming, and account management.
Tom is an awesome designer and really helped elevate the creative product coming out of this shop when he came aboard. Tom became the primary designer once Barry got more involved with our accounts and helping me run the business. Jackie and I used to enjoy taking Tom and his wife Babette sailing with us, and danged if he didn't go out and get a boat himself. We had some great times down on the "Rivah". Tom was the quiet one of the bunch until it came time to play the company game MARATHON, at which time he would consistantly and thoroughly kick all our butts. (MARATHON was a network shoot-em-up game that we used to play every day after work)
Tom is a creative powerhouse and we were lucky to have him.

One day I heard this huge noise over The Island and it was Dan landing his own private Sea Plane! - or was it his Viper. I guess it was the Viper pulling up. In any case, Dan kind of popped in one day and ended up staying for over a year. I consider Dan to be an "interactive rock star" in his own right. Dan was the co-founder of Xperts as well as the founder of Tekna Interactive. Dan sold Tekna and we caught him between Tekna and his current company, Eye-Q. I think Dan is a genius - really. There's nothing that he can't do on a computer, he's a fantastic guitar player, he can drive race cars, plus he does the best Beavis imitation I've ever heard. Dan is a very cool guy and I'm glad he hung out with us.

When fletch came on board we just threw him in the fire. Our shop had always been strong in creative but light in the ultra complex programming department. Fletch came in and filled the role as our heavy programmer, and boy did we drop a load on him. I gave fletch about three weeks to master ASP and I think he did it in two. Fletch went on to build a lot of very complicated and successful custom web applications for our clients and really helped to make us the total development shop that we needed to be. He was the young and single one, and we were reminded of that every Monday morning ;-). Thanks for all the bits and bytes Fletch.

David could have been a rock star, and locally at the very least he is. An incredible guitarist and singer, he founded the local Richmond band, "The Fredds". When I hired David, I'm not even sure that he knew what a good designer he was. When you think about it though, creativity and musical talent kind of go hand-in-hand. David came in and learned Flash early on and after about a year certainly rivaled all of us with his graphic design talent. His abilities in Flash helped keep DNM on the cutting edge of web design. In addition to all this talent, David was just plain nice to have around. He's just a nice easy-going guy. David worked in the back of the office where the afternoon sun would shine in. Every now and then if I was feeling stressed or tired, I'd like to go back to David's office and kick back, relax, and just talk to Dave. As fate would have it, David and I got a chance to re-unite and work together again in 2006, and still do today.

I hired Don because I was getting sick and tired of being the oldest guy here. Just kidding. When Don came over to interview, I saw his license plate on his car and it said "VELOMAN". I was like, "what the hell is that?" (it means bicycle dummy). It also means that's why this "old guy" could take a bike and ride circles around anybody in the shop while sleeping. That Don guy - man he's in shape! I went mountain bike riding with Don one time and he wore my a** out! Don was great to have around. He came into this stuff cold and quickly became "a cog in the wheel" - no pun intended.

Fritz Davies (sometimes called "Fritzer") has been with DNM all of his life. (what dedication!) Fritz's role?
Greet clients with a smile and a "paw up" and solicitors with a prompt growl.
Fritz brought considerable experience to The Island, which included his ability to sniff for checks in the daily mail.
FRITZ UPDATE: Fritz is retired and today, as I make this update, Fritz turns nine. He's getting up in his years and spends most of his days sleeping - but he still barks and runs and goes nuts when I come home from work each day.
Hear Fritz bark! (as a puppy)
